Thomson introduces Los Cabos for summer 2008

Los Cabos - New for Summer 2008

Thomson has introduced Los Cabos, Baja California, to its new Summer 2008 programme, becoming the first major travel company to feature the region from the UK.  Thomsonfly will operate direct flights enabling Thomson guests to enjoy more legroom than ever before and its unique Aldo Zilli meals service.

Located in the southernmost tip of Baja California, Los Cabos is an established destination already popular with Americans and Canadians.  Offering fantastic beaches, and a host of land and water based activities, the destination is expected to prove popular with couples and families with older children.

Featured in Thomson’s Faraway Shores 3rd edition brochure, on sale from April 26, Thomson will initially offer two all-inclusive hotels in the region, the 5T Riu Santa Fe, due for completion late 2007, and the 5T Riu Palace Cabo St Lucas.  Thomsonfly will operate fortnightly flights from London Gatwick and Manchester.  Prices start from £999 for 14 nights all-inclusive at the 5T Riu Santa Fe, based on two sharing and including return flights from Manchester on 11t June 2008.

In addition, Thomson has reintroduced Puerto Vallarta on Mexico’s Pacific coast for summer 2008.  Fortnightly flights operate from London Gatwick and Manchester, and prices start from £899 for 14 nights all-inclusive at the 5T ClubHotel Riu Jalisco, including return flights from Manchester on 4th June 2008.

Alex Loftus, Thomson long-haul planning general manager, said: “For many years Mexico has always been a popular destination for British travellers.  The hotels offer excellent facilities, there is an abundance of water and land based activities and the resorts boast fabulous beaches and great nightlife.  There is also the favourable exchange rate right now which makes it even more affordable.

He added: “Los Cabos is a fashionable destination with the Canadians and Americans and we believe it will also be a huge hit with the British, eager to explore a destination that has not previously been available from the UK.”

Thomson has recently overhauled its long haul service: thirty six seats have been removed from each of the Boeing 767s so from May 2007 economy passengers will benefit from 33-inch legroom, two inches more than either BA or Virgin, with new 37-inch legroom in premium class.

The new innovations continue through to Thomsonfly’s onboard catering, with celebrity chef Aldo Zilli launching his range of meals in May to stretch across both Thomsonfly Plus and Premium class.

The new Thomson Faraway Shores 3rd edition goes on sale 26th April 2007.
