Holidays in Amathus Bay

Set on the edge of the popular resort of Limassol on Cyprus' southern coast, Amathus Bay is one of those blink-and-you'll-miss-it kind of places. It's much smaller than its lively neighbour and a lot quieter, too, but that's all part of its charm. For the most part, holidays here revolve around the beach. Amathus is home to a gorgeous golden stretch that's dotted with sandy hills and dunes. It means that as well as being a great swimming and tanning spot, it's perfect walking territory, too. But Amathus Bay's main attraction lies away from the beach, on the outskirts of the town. Here, you'll find the site of one of Europe's largest ancient kingdoms, rumoured to have been home to the children of the Greek God, Heracles. Not much remains there today, but you can still see parts of temples, houses and the marketplace. Back in the new town, meanwhile, you'll find a handful of shops and restaurants. But for those big nights out, Limassol's bars and clubs are only a 10-minute taxi ride away.
