Let's make it plain right from the start … Mlini is no place to party. And it's all the better for that. But if you're into strolls along the shore, walks to little villages, or country drives through the valleys, Mlini will be right up your street. And some of Croatia's best sightseeing is close at hand. A favourite beach base for devotees of Dubrovnik, it's just 10km away from the walled city itself - go by boat instead and make the short sea sail part of the whole experience. Other attractions include the botanical gardens at Trsteno, the vineyards in the Zupa Valley and the oyster beds at Ston. You could walk along the coast to Srebrena village. And Cavtat is just down the road for a feast of restaurants, bags of gift shops and a bustling atmosphere. Back in Mlini, 'bustle' doesn't feature on the menu. Olive groves and orange orchards snooze to a cicada soundtrack. The old watermill basks by its timeless team-mate stream. Old stone houses cluster round the sleepy harbour. And unpretentious eateries serve seafood specialities. Life in the slow lane at its best.
